So I found this book called Sweater Surgery at the library, and it had TONS of awesome stuff in it, including combining a sweater with a heavy knit top to make a dress!

Necklace with chains and wooden pieces

  • May. 17th, 2008 at 9:07 PM
What's the best way to attach wooden pieces (about the size of a Scrabble letter) to a chain for a necklace? I'm pretty sure there are tiny screws with loops on the end, but I'm not sure how easy it would be to attach those. Is there a better way to secure a loop to a (fairly solid) wooden piece? THANKS!

Website Design

  • May. 18th, 2008 at 2:07 AM
Hey everyone.

I am starting my own small business in the next month or two, making badges. I'll be using Etsy, Big Cartel, eBay, Myspace and a website of my own to sell them. I will be doing both custom order designs and standard designs too.

In terms of my own shop website, I'd like to have a simple, but nice looking website to sell the custom service.
Can anyone let me know how I go about designing the website and producing the code for the site itself? Do you use a website to do this for you? Has someone else done this for you? Did you have to pay for it?
Can you basically let me know everything you can in regards to this?

Thank you so much!

Steampunk Horses at AMNH

  • May. 17th, 2008 at 7:10 PM
They're having a horse show at The American Museum of Natural History in New York. Outside they have painted horses (much like the cows from a few years ago) and I found two very steamy ones that I thought I should share! Many pictures under the cut, but here's one to tease!

Enjoy!
So. My friends were over and we were disscussing sewing, and renovating old prom dresses into better things. The topic of measurements came up, and before when I looked at brand measuremewnts I always considered myself to be a little on the larger side, even though I'm small in stature. They called me stupid for thinking that way, and that lolita clothing was ruining my self confidence. Then while talking about how I could renovate this cute pink dress into something more lolita, my friend suggested that I put some ruffled black lace I had on it. I told her "well, thats wouldn't be very lolita" she laughed at me and told me howstupid I was for even thinking about rules.

So then, my computer exploded and I completly left the lolita world, and somehow once all this bitchiness was gone, it made me feel better.

to make it short:

You can keep your too small over-priced clothes, your stupid fucking rules, your little cliquey communities, your being in debt before your 30 because OMFG MOITIE HAS A NEW DRESS OUT, and all your trolling bullshit.

Because you know what?

I don't fucking need it.

So if you don't mind, I'm going to make my own lolita style now.

I'm interested in Maki's illustrations for Angelic Pretty, old and new.

If anyone has any, or knows of a place where I can find them all in one spot who be greatly appreciated!

[EDIT] Found what I needed thank you!

Necklace Display

  • May. 17th, 2008 at 8:00 PM
I am going to college in the fall (yippie!) and I have a lot of unique necklaces that kind of shows my personality, I was wondering if there was a way to cheaply display necklaces? Not on the wall with nails or anything but some sort of metal structure or something to hang necklaces off of.

AND I was wondering if this is a good idea...or would just keeping them in a jewelry box be better? Thoughts?

Londoners!

  • May. 17th, 2008 at 11:39 PM
Any London-based steam enthusiasts might be interested in attending the Paradise Gardens event in Victoria Park in East London next weekend (24th/25th May).

In the Victorian era, parks were pleasure gardens where the most thrilling activities of the day were on offer for families to enjoy. For Paradise Gardens we update this idea for the 21st Century, offering a dizzying array of artforms, stages and activities for audiences of all ages to enjoy.

Entertainments include Carter's Steam Fair, the Tea Dance Tent and the Bar of Ideas.

I live next to Victoria Park and have been to all the Paradise Gardens (it's a yearly event) and I highly recommend it. I always have a go on the steam-driven merry-go-round!

Best of all it's free to go to, although the circus and Sensazione attractions are ticketed.

May be I'll see you there!

Designer Headdress?

  • May. 17th, 2008 at 6:02 PM
I was cruising around fashion blogs and caught Icelandic designer Thelma's Autumn/Winter 08-09 collection. Though not meant to be Lolita, I think there's some potential for a good coordinate. Probably hard to get, but it certainly gives me some sewing ideas.

This one's my favorite. )

Dress!

  • May. 17th, 2008 at 5:54 PM

Okay, so school's officially out. Chicago is warming up. And one of my best friends asked me to make her this dress out of some material she had. Well, she actually had the patterned material from an old dress, & we found the seafoam green at JoAnn's. I love when you find the perfect match like that.
